Safe Sleep Policy
The health and safety of all children in our care is our top priority. To reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related infant deaths, Adventure Tykes follows a strict Safe Sleep Policy for infants under 12 months of age, in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines and state licensing regulations.
1. Sleep Position
-
All infants will be placed on their backs for every nap and nighttime sleep, unless a physician provides written instructions stating otherwise (with medical documentation).
-
Once an infant is able to roll from back to front and front to back on their own, they may be allowed to remain in the position they choose after being placed on their back to sleep.
2. Sleep Environment
-
Infants will sleep only in a safety-approved crib or pack-and-play with a firm mattress and a fitted sheet.
-
The following are not allowed in sleep spaces:
-
Blankets, pillows, bumper pads, stuffed animals, toys, or positioning devices.
-
-
Swaddling is not permitted unless specifically authorized in writing by a medical professional and allowed under licensing regulations.
3. Supervision During Sleep
-
Infants will be visually checked at least every 15 minutes during sleep, and we will monitor breathing, skin color, and overall well-being.
-
A baby monitor may be used as a secondary tool, but it does not replace direct supervision.
4. Pacifiers
-
Pacifiers are permitted during sleep if provided by the parent and must not be attached to the child by a clip, string, or stuffed animal.
-
If a pacifier falls out of the infant’s mouth during sleep, it will not be reinserted.
5. Room Temperature and Clothing
-
The sleep environment will be kept at a comfortable temperature (recommended between 68–72°F).
-
Infants will be dressed in appropriate sleep clothing, such as a wearable blanket or sleep sack, to avoid overheating.
-
No hats or hoods will be worn during sleep.
6. Awake Tummy Time
-
Infants will be given supervised tummy time daily when they are awake to promote healthy development and reduce the risk of flat head syndrome.
7. Parent Communication
-
Parents will be informed of our Safe Sleep Policy during enrollment and asked to review and sign the acknowledgment form.
-
Any changes to sleep routines or special sleep instructions must be communicated in writing.
8. Exceptions
-
Exceptions to this policy require a physician’s written note detailing the medical reason and the specific alternative sleep instructions.
-
A copy of the physician’s instructions will be kept in the child’s file.
9. Policy Compliance and Training
-
All staff members and caregivers will receive annual training on safe sleep practices.
This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as needed to remain in compliance with state regulations and best practices.
Sick Child Policy
To ensure the health and safety of all children and staff, Adventure Tykes follows a strict sick child policy. Children who are ill must remain at home to prevent the spread of illness and to allow for proper rest and recovery.
Children Must Stay Home If They Exhibit:
-
Fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher (child must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
-
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
-
Unexplained rash or skin infection
-
Eye infections (red, crusty, or discharging eyes)
-
Persistent cough or wheezing
-
Difficulty breathing
-
Excessive fatigue or irritability preventing participation in normal activities
-
Contagious conditions such as strep throat, hand-foot-and-mouth, chickenpox, pink eye, lice, etc.
If a Child Becomes Sick During the Day:
-
The parent or guardian will be contacted immediately.
-
The child must be picked up within 1 hour of notification.
-
The child will be made comfortable in a quiet area, away from other children, while waiting for pickup.
Return to Care:
A child may return to daycare when:
-
They are symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication
-
A doctor provides a written clearance if the illness is severely contagious
-
They are well enough to participate in normal activities, including outdoor play.
Medication Policy
At Adventure Tykes Home Daycare, the health and safety of the children in our care is a top priority. To ensure the proper and safe administration of medication, the following policy is in place:
-
Prescription Medications:
Prescription medications will only be administered with a completed and signed Medication Authorization Form from the parent or legal guardian. We require the number of pills required for two weeks plus an extra 2 days worth of pills kept for emergencies. -
Over-the-Counter Medications:
We do not administer over-the-counter medications (e.g., fever reducers, cough medicine) to mask symptoms of illness without a doctor’s written approval. However, we do administer over-the-counter medications for short term use, such as teething, with only parent’s written permission. -
Medication Handling:
All medications must be handed directly to a Lead Caregiver by the parent or guardian. Medications may not be sent through the child under any circumstances. -
Authorized Staff Only:
Only trained Lead Caregivers are permitted to administer medication. -
Required Documentation:
Parents must complete all required forms prior to any medication being given. The child’s medical record and health assessment must be current and accurately reflect any medication needs. -
Accuracy and Compliance:
Providing false or fraudulent medical information will result in immediate termination of services and may be reported to appropriate authorities.
If you have any questions about this policy or need assistance with the required forms, please contact our staff. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children.
Meals and Snacks Policy
At Adventure Tykes, we are committed to providing nutritious, balanced meals and snacks that support healthy growth and development. Mealtime is also a time for learning social skills, trying new foods, and practicing independence.

Water is available at all times, and milk or a non-dairy equivalent is served with lunch. Meals are served family-style when appropriate, encouraging children to try new foods and make choices.
Special Dietary Needs:
Please inform us of any food allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions your child has. We are happy to work with families to accommodate:
-
Allergies (e.g., peanuts, dairy, gluten)
-
Religious or cultural food preferences
-
Vegetarian or vegan diets
In some cases, families may be asked to provide alternative items if a substitution is complex or not available.
What Parents Should Provide:

If you choose to pack your child’s meals, please send nut-free and ready-to-eat items.
-
Please no candy, soda, or high-sugar treats unless for a pre-approved celebration.

Parents of infants must provide formula or breastmilk, as well as any baby food and bottles. We follow all safe feeding practices, including proper storage and warming procedures.
Food Safety & Cleanliness:
We follow all state and local food safety guidelines, including:
-
Handwashing before and after meals
-
Sanitized eating surfaces
-
Proper storage and handling of food
-
Monitoring for choking hazards and portion sizes appropriate for age
Behavior and Discipline Policy
We believe that children thrive in a safe, supportive environment where expectations are clear, and guidance is respectful and age-appropriate. Our goal is to help children develop self-control, empathy, and problem-solving skills through positive reinforcement and consistent boundaries.
Guiding Principles:
-
Every child is treated with respect and dignity.
-
Discipline is viewed as an opportunity for teaching, not punishment.
-
We focus on encouraging positive behavior rather than simply reacting to negative behavior.
-
Children are supported in learning how their actions affect others.
Discipline Methods Used:
-
Modeling
Caregivers model respectful, cooperative behavior and communication. -
Redirection
Children are gently guided away from negative behavior and encouraged to engage in a more appropriate activity. -
Choices & Problem Solving
When possible, children are given choices to foster independence and decision-making. -
Logical Consequences
Consequences are related to the behavior (e.g., cleaning up a spilled drink or taking a short break from a disruptive activity). -
Cool Down Time (Not Time-Out)
Children may be offered a quiet, cozy space to calm down if they are overwhelmed or upset. This is not used as punishment, and children may return to the group when ready.
What We Never Use:
-
No corporal punishment (spanking, hitting, etc.)
-
No yelling, shaming, or threats
-
No withholding of food, rest, or toileting
-
No isolation or harsh discipline techniques.
Understanding Toddler Behavior:
We recognize that:
-
Tantrums, biting, pushing, and testing limits are normal developmental behaviors at this age.
-
Toddlers communicate feelings through actions, not words.
-
They need consistent routines, calm guidance, and safe ways to express big emotions.
Ongoing Challenges:
If challenging behavior becomes frequent or escalates:
-
We will document incidents and communicate openly with the family.
-
Together, we may create a simple behavior support plan.
-
If needed, we may suggest early childhood resources or referrals.
Parent Partnership:
We know that consistency between home and daycare helps toddlers thrive. We encourage open communication and are always happy to discuss your child’s needs, temperament, and strategies that work well at home.
Abuse Prevention Policy
We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and protective environment for every child. The physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of children is our highest priority. We maintain strict standards and practices to prevent abuse of any kind, and to ensure that all children are respected, supervised, and supported at all times. Our Abuse Prevention Measures Include:
1. Staff Screening and Training
-
All staff undergo background checks, reference checks, and child abuse registry clearance prior to employment.
-
Team members receive ongoing training in child abuse prevention, identification of warning signs, mandated reporting requirements, and safe supervision techniques.
2. Supervision and Environment
-
Children are never left unsupervised.
-
Restroom and diapering procedures are conducted according to best practices, with transparency and documentation.
3. Physical Boundaries and Respect
-
Staff are trained to model and teach appropriate physical boundaries.
-
Displays of physical affection (such as hugs or high fives) are only given with child consent and in an appropriate context.
-
Inappropriate touching, roughhousing, medical play or body-based games (e.g., “playing doctor”) are strictly prohibited among children and staff.
4. Reporting and Response
-
Any suspicion of abuse (whether by a staff member, family member, or peer) will be taken seriously and reported to the proper authorities as required by law.
-
We follow mandated reporter laws and cooperate fully with investigations.
-
Parents will be informed of any relevant incidents, within the bounds of confidentiality and legal protocols.
5. Open Communication
-
We encourage open communication between staff and families.
-
Parents are welcome to ask questions, observe the environment, or request information on our policies and procedures.
By enrolling your child at Adventure Tykes, you agree to support and uphold this policy. Our shared goal is a safe and secure space where children can learn, grow, and thrive without fear or harm.
Emergency Procedures Policy
At Adventure Tykes, the safety and well-being of all children in our care is our highest priority. We have established emergency procedures to respond quickly and effectively in case of fire, weather events, medical emergencies, or other unexpected situations.

-
Parents will be notified once it is safe to do so.
3. Lockdown & Intruder Situations:

Teaching Diversity, Consent, & Emotional Regulation Policy
At Adventure Tykes Home Daycare, we believe that every child deserves a nurturing, respectful, and empowering environment that supports their growth as kind, confident, and emotionally aware individuals. Our approach to diversity and inclusion, consent, and emotional regulation reflects our commitment to honoring each child’s unique identity, fostering respectful peer interactions, and developing lifelong social-emotional skills with a global perspective.
1. Diversity & Inclusion
We strive to create an environment where every child feels seen, valued, and respected. Our practices reflect a broad and inclusive view of family structures, cultural traditions, and individual identities.
Implementation:
-
Books, toys, and classroom materials reflect diverse races, cultures, languages, family structures, identities, and abilities.
-
Inclusive stories and visuals may feature same-sex parents, people with disabilities, multiracial families, and gender-diverse characters.
-
Holidays and traditions are approached in a way that promotes cultural appreciation and awareness.
-
Educators do not initiate conversations about topics like gender identity but respond appropriately and respectfully to child-led questions in partnership with parents.
-
Families are always informed in advance about specific content (e.g., themed books or activities during Asian American and Pacific islander Heritage Month, Pride Month, Black History Month, and more).
2. Consent & Bodily Autonomy
Consent begins in early childhood. Teaching consent empowers children to make choices about their own bodies and builds respectful communication skills.
Implementation:
-
Children are encouraged to express preferences about physical contact (e.g., choosing a hug, high-five, or wave at drop-off and pick-up).
-
Children are taught to respect others’ boundaries. For example, if a peer says “no” to a hug, we practice acknowledging and honoring that choice.
-
Diapering, toileting, and care routines are conducted respectfully with clear communication about what is happening.
-
Children are never forced to share, hug, or interact in ways that make them uncomfortable; instead, we model turn-taking and conflict resolution.
3. Emotional Regulation & Social-Emotional Learning
We support children in developing awareness of their feelings, empathy for others, and strategies to manage big emotions in healthy ways.
Implementation:
-
Daily routines include check-ins and open-ended questions like “How are you feeling today?” and “What made you smile?”
-
Children learn to identify emotions using tools such as feeling charts, storybooks, reflection cards, as well as other methods.
-
A dedicated calm-down corner is available, stocked with soft seating, sensory tools (e.g., calm-down jars, squishy toys), drawing materials, and books about emotional regulation.
-
Caregivers guide children through co-regulation, modeling deep breathing, labeling emotions, and finding comfort strategies together.
-
Conflict between peers is viewed as a learning opportunity, with caregivers supporting children to express themselves and resolve issues respectfully.
Parental Communication and Partnership
Adventure Tykes values open, ongoing communication with families. When questions or situations arise—especially around sensitive topics—families will be notified and given the opportunity to continue the conversation at home. Our goal is to support children's curiosity while honoring each family’s values and readiness.
Opt-Out & Transitional Support
While our core curriculum includes social-emotional learning, diversity, and consent practices, we understand some families may be in transition or waiting for placement at a different care environment. We work collaboratively with these families to support their needs in a respectful and temporary capacity, where appropriate
Field Trip Policy
At Adventure Tykes, we believe that field trips are a wonderful way to provide children with hands-on learning experiences, explore the community, and enhance their development. Safety is our top priority, and all field trips are carefully planned and executed to ensure a fun and educational experience for the children in our care.
1. Field Trip Permissions:
-
Written Consent: Before each field trip, parents will be required to sign a Field Trip Permission Form. This will outline the destination, date, time, and activities of the trip. Children will not be allowed to attend any field trip without prior written consent from the parent or guardian.
-
Ongoing Consent: Parents may also give ongoing consent for field trips by signing a blanket permission form at the beginning of the year. This allows their child to attend scheduled field trips, but parents will still be notified of each trip in advance.
2. Supervision and Safety:
-
Adequate Staff-to-Child Ratio: We will ensure that there are enough caregivers to maintain the appropriate child-to-staff ratio, as required by Kansas state regulations. The exact ratio may vary depending on the type of trip and the age of the children.
-
Child Identification: Children will wear name tags or wristbands that include the daycare's contact information during field trips to ensure easy identification.
-
Transportation:
-
If transportation is required, children will be transported in safe, licensed vehicles (e.g., daycare van, bus, or parent-provided carpool) driven by licensed and insured drivers.
-
Parents may be asked to provide transportation for their child if the trip location is close by, and they will be notified in advance.
-
-
Emergency Contact Information: A complete list of emergency contact numbers, medical information, and allergies will be taken on each trip, and all staff will have access to it.
3. Field Trip Details:
-
Advance Notification: Parents will receive notice of each field trip at least one week before the trip. This notice will include:
-
Date, time, and location of the trip
-
Activities planned during the trip
-
Cost (if applicable)
-
What to bring (e.g., appropriate clothing, water bottles, sunscreen)
-
-
Cost of Field Trips: If there is a fee for the field trip (e.g., entrance fees or special activity costs), parents will be notified in advance. The fee must be paid by the date of the field trip unless otherwise posted.
4. Special Considerations:
-
Health & Safety: If your child has any medical conditions, food allergies, or other special needs, please inform us ahead of time. This ensures we can make appropriate accommodations.
-
Appropriate Clothing: Parents will be reminded to send their child in comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the activities, as well as sunscreen, hats, and water bottles when necessary.
-
Weather Conditions: Field trips may be rescheduled or canceled in the event of poor weather conditions. Parents will be notified promptly if a change occurs.
5. Behavior Expectations:
-
Behavioral Guidelines: We expect all children to follow our usual behavioral guidelines during field trips. This includes:
-
Listening to staff instructions
-
Being kind and respectful to others
-
Following safety rules (e.g., staying with the group, not running)
-
-
Consequences for Misbehavior: If a child is consistently disruptive or unable to follow safety guidelines, they may not be allowed to participate in future field trips. Parents will be notified in advance if such a decision is made.
6. Emergency Procedures:
-
Medical Emergencies: In the event of an emergency, staff will call 911 immediately, and parents or emergency contacts will be notified as soon as possible.
-
Field Trip Incident Reports: If a child is injured or has an accident during a field trip, an incident report will be completed, and parents will be informed immediately.
7. Parent Participation:
Volunteers: Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in field trips as volunteers. We may request volunteers to help with supervision, transportation, or other tasks. Volunteers must meet all background check and safety requirements as set forth by the daycare.
Photography and Social Media Policy
At Adventure Tykes, we understand the importance of capturing memories and celebrating the milestones in a child’s early years. However, we also respect the privacy of each child and family, and therefore have established guidelines for taking and sharing photos. This policy ensures that photos are taken and shared responsibly, with the best interests of the children in mind.
1. Photography in the Daycare Setting
-
Permission to Photograph: Parents must provide written consent for their child to be photographed. A Photography Permission Form will be provided at the time of enrollment. If a parent does not wish for their child to be photographed, we will make reasonable accommodations to ensure that their child is not included in photographs.
-
Purpose of Photos: Photos taken at the daycare may be used for educational purposes (e.g., tracking developmental progress), displayed in the daycare for the children to enjoy, or used in daycare communications (e.g., newsletters or displays) with parental permission.
-
Use of Photos for Marketing or Promotional Materials: We will never use your child’s image for promotional or marketing purposes (e.g., brochures, websites, or social media) without explicit written consent. Parents will be asked to sign a consent form if they agree to allow their child’s image to be used for marketing materials.
-
Respecting Privacy: We will never take photos of children while they are in vulnerable situations (e.g., sleeping, changing clothes, or using the restroom) to respect their privacy.
2. Social Media Guidelines
-
Parent’s Use of Social Media: We understand that parents may want to share moments from daycare on their personal social media accounts. However, we ask that parents respect the privacy of other children and families:
-
No photos of other children should be posted without obtaining permission from the child’s parent/guardian.
-
Respect for Privacy: Please be mindful of what’s shared online and avoid tagging or identifying other children in photos without explicit consent from the child’s parent.
-
-
Daycare’s Use of Social Media: Adventure Tykes may post pictures of activities or milestones on our official social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, website) with prior permission from parents. These posts are intended to showcase the children’s activities and the fun, educational environment of our daycare.
-
Parent Consent for Social Media: A separate Social Media Consent Form will be provided, which includes details about how photos might be used on social media. Parents can opt in or out of allowing their child’s photos to be shared.
-
3. Security and Online Safety
-
Secure Sharing: Any photos shared online by the daycare will be done securely, and we will avoid sharing any identifiable personal information along with the photos (e.g., full names or addresses).
-
Limited Access: Photos or videos that feature children will be kept on secured platforms (e.g., password-protected sites) when shared for internal purposes (e.g., with parents or staff).
4. Photography During Special Events
-
Events and Celebrations: For special events, such as holiday parties, performances, or outings, photography may occur. Parents will be notified in advance about any events where photography is encouraged or where professional photographers may be present. In these instances, parents will have the option to opt out if they prefer their child not to be photographed.
5. Special Requests
-
Opt-Out Option: Parents who do not want their child’s image taken, or who prefer their child not to be included in daycare-related photographs, should notify the daycare provider in writing. This includes opting out of photos taken for internal purposes, like developmental progress tracking or daycare displays.
Requests for Removal: If a parent discovers that their child’s image has been posted online or shared in a way that they are uncomfortable with, they can contact the daycare provider to request the removal of the image.
Open Door Policy
We recognize that trust and transparency are essential in building strong relationships with families. We maintain an Open Door Policy that encourages parents and guardians to stay actively involved in their child’s care and to feel confident in the safety and quality of our environment.
1. Parent Access and Visits
-
Parents or legal guardians are welcome to visit at any time during business hours without prior notice.
-
You may observe your child, ask questions, or engage briefly with staff to check in about your child’s day.
-
Visits are encouraged to be brief during active learning to minimize routine disruptions.
2. Communication During the Day
-
We are happy to provide updates via text or app, especially for infant feeding/sleep, or to share milestones.
-
For more detailed conversations, we may ask to schedule a time outside of active care hours to ensure privacy and attention.
3. Respecting Daily Routines
To maintain a calm and structured environment for all children:
-
Parents are asked to refrain from interacting with children other than their own during visits, unless invited or approved.
-
Visits during nap times may be limited or asked to be kept quiet to avoid disrupting sleeping children.
-
During drop-off and pick-up, we kindly ask parents to help with a smooth and timely transition to avoid distress for their child and distractions for the group.
4. Observation and Participation
-
Parents who wish to participate in activities (e.g., story time, celebrations, or field trips) are welcome to coordinate in advance and fill out a volunteer form (see next policy).
-
We may also invite parents to share cultural traditions, hobbies, or skills as part of our learning program.
5. Privacy and Safety
We ask all visiting parents to respect the privacy and confidentiality of other children and families. No photos, videos, or recordings may be taken during visits without explicit consent from the provider and the parents of all children who may appear in the image.
Parent Involvement and Volunteering Policy
At Adventure Tykes, we believe that family involvement is crucial in creating a positive and nurturing environment for the children in our care. We encourage parents and guardians to engage with our daycare community in various ways, and we value the support, ideas, and perspectives that families bring to our program. This policy outlines the opportunities, expectations, and guidelines for parent participation and volunteering.
1. Encouraging Parent Participation
-
Open Communication: We encourage parents to maintain open lines of communication with us about their child’s development, behavior, and any concerns. Parent meetings can be scheduled upon request to discuss a child’s progress.
-
Classroom Visits: Parents are welcome to visit the daycare and observe the activities but please be mindful of sleeping children. Please pop in anytime!
-
Special Events & Celebrations: Parents may be invited to participate in special events or celebrations held at the daycare (e.g., birthdays, holidays, or cultural celebrations). We encourage parents to share their traditions and cultural experiences with the children.
2. Volunteering Opportunities
We offer several ways for parents to get involved in the daily operations of the daycare. Volunteering is an excellent way to engage with your child’s learning environment and help strengthen our daycare community. These opportunities may include:
-
Field Trip Chaperones: Parents can volunteer to accompany children on field trips, helping with supervision and ensuring safety.
-
Special Projects: Parents may assist with activities, projects, or crafts. We will notify parents in advance of any special activities that require additional help.
-
Classroom Assistance: Parents can volunteer to help with arts and crafts, reading time, or outdoor play. If you have a specific skill, talent, or hobby (e.g., music, art, gardening), we welcome you to share that with the children during appropriate activities.
-
Holiday or Seasonal Events: Parents may be asked to assist with holiday parties, seasonal decorations, or themed events. This could involve organizing supplies, setting up, or helping children participate in activities.
3. Expectations for Volunteers
To maintain a safe and supportive environment for all children, we have the following expectations for volunteers:
-
Background Checks: All volunteers must undergo a background check to ensure the safety of the children in our care. This may include a criminal record check and child abuse clearance, in accordance with state regulations.
-
Confidentiality: Volunteers are expected to respect the confidentiality of all children and families. This includes not discussing children’s behaviors, abilities, or personal information outside of daycare.
-
Supervision and Behavior: Volunteers should model appropriate behavior and act as positive role models. All volunteers must adhere to the same behavioral expectations as staff, including respect, patience, and kindness.
-
Adherence to Policies: Volunteers must familiarize themselves with and follow the daycare’s policies. They are expected to support the daycare’s educational philosophy and approach.
-
Parent Volunteer Meetings: We may host occasional meetings or orientations for parents interested in volunteering. These meetings will cover expectations, safety protocols, and other important guidelines for volunteering.
4. Limitations and Boundaries
While we appreciate and encourage involvement, we also recognize the importance of boundaries. Here are a few considerations:
-
Classroom Environment: To avoid disruptions to the daily routine and to allow children to feel comfortable, parents are asked not to linger for extended periods of time in the classroom without a specific volunteering role or appointment.
-
Non-Participation During Drop-Off and Pick-Up: We kindly ask that parents refrain from lingering in the daycare during drop-off and pick-up times unless they are volunteering or have scheduled a specific meeting. This helps minimize distractions and ensures a smooth transition for all children.
-
Parent-Teacher Boundaries: Volunteers should avoid discussing personal matters or conflicts with staff while volunteering. If you need to discuss anything about your child’s care or behavior, we encourage you to schedule a private meeting with the provider or caregiver.
5. Volunteer Scheduling and Sign-Ups
-
Advance Notice: We will provide parents with advance notice of any volunteer opportunities, including field trips, events, or classroom help. Parents will have the chance to sign up ahead of time, and participation may be on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on the nature of the event.
-
Volunteer Slots: To ensure a safe and well-organized environment, volunteer slots may be limited. We will do our best to accommodate as many parents as possible, but we may need to prioritize based on the needs of the activity or event.
-
Availability: To check our current volunteer availability, please feel free to shoot us a message.
Parent Orientation and Onboarding Policy
We understand that starting daycare can be an exciting yet emotional transition for both children and their families. Our orientation and onboarding process is designed to ease this transition by ensuring parents are fully informed, comfortable, and confident in our program. This policy outlines what to expect during the initial enrollment period and how we support new families joining our daycare community.
1. Initial Inquiry and Tour
-
Introductory Meeting: When a family expresses interest, we schedule a tour of the daycare and an introductory meeting. During this visit, parents can see the environment, meet the provider, ask questions, and observe daily routines in action. Feel free contact us now to schedule a tour!
-
Information Packet: Families will receive a Welcome Packet that includes:
-
Program overview
-
Parent handbook
-
Fee schedule
-
Daily schedule
-
Enrollment forms
-
Required supply list
-
2. Enrollment and Paperwork
Before a child may begin care, the following documents must be completed and submitted:
-
Enrollment form
-
Emergency contact form
-
Child health form with immunization records
-
Consent forms (field trip, media, sunscreen, etc.)
-
Signed Parent Handbook acknowledgment
-
Payment of registration or holding fee (if applicable)
We require all forms to be completed at least 3 business days before the child’s start date.
3. Parent Orientation Meeting
We schedule a one-on-one orientation meeting (in person or virtual) before the child’s first day. This meeting includes:
-
Review of daily routines and classroom expectations
-
Drop-off and pick-up procedures
-
Policies and procedures (sick child, meals, behavior, etc.)
-
Communication methods (daily reports, text updates, newsletters)
-
Parent involvement opportunities
-
Introduction to key staff members (if applicable)
This is also a great time for parents to share information about their child’s preferences, routines, and any special needs or concerns.
4. Child Transition Process
We understand that each child adjusts differently to a new environment. We offer the following to help ease the transition:
-
Shortened Intro Days: For younger children or first-time daycare attendees, we may suggest 1–2 shorter introductory days to help them gradually get used to the setting.
-
Comfort Items: Parents may send a familiar toy, blanket, or comfort item to help ease the transition.
-
Family Photos: We encourage families to bring a small photo for our wall or cubby area to help children feel more at home.
5. First Week Communication
During your child’s first week, we prioritize communication with families to ensure a smooth adjustment:
-
Daily Updates: You’ll receive photos and updates about how your child is settling in, eating, napping, and participating in activities.
-
Check-In Call: We may do a brief phone or message check-in after the first couple of days to see if you have any questions or concerns.
6. Ongoing Support for New Families
-
Open Door Policy: Parents are always welcome to reach out with questions or to request a meeting. Communication is encouraged and valued.
-
30-Day Check-In: We offer a follow-up check-in meeting approximately 30 days after enrollment to discuss how your child is adjusting and gather feedback on your experience so far.
-
Parent Resource Materials: As part of onboarding, we may share helpful resources such as child development articles, behavior tips, and community support info.
7. Transitioning from Other Care Arrangements
If your child is transferring from another daycare or care provider, we encourage you to share any documentation, routines, or strategies that supported your child’s previous care. We will do our best to make the transition smooth and personalized.
Special Needs and Individualized Care Plans Policy
At Adventure Tykes, we are committed to providing an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing environment where all children—regardless of ability—can thrive. We recognize that some children may require individualized care or accommodations due to physical, developmental, behavioral, emotional, or medical needs. This policy outlines how we support children with special needs and collaborate with families to create customized care plans.
1. Non-Discrimination Statement
We do not discriminate against children or families based on disability, diagnosis, or developmental delays. We welcome children of all abilities and strive to make reasonable accommodations that ensure every child receives equitable care and access to learning opportunities.
2. Disclosure and Communication
-
Parent Disclosure: Parents are encouraged to share any diagnoses, developmental concerns, or behavioral/medical needs during enrollment. Full transparency allows us to provide the best care possible.
-
Ongoing Communication: We maintain an open-door policy for ongoing conversations regarding a child's progress, changing needs, or concerns. We will work collaboratively with families, therapists, and specialists as needed.
3. Individualized Care Plans (ICPs)
For all children requiring accommodations or specialized care, we will work with the family to develop an Individualized Care Plan (ICP) that includes:
-
Child’s diagnosis or condition (if applicable)
-
Developmental, behavioral, or medical concerns
-
Specific accommodations needed
-
Feeding, toileting, or mobility considerations
-
Medication instructions (if applicable)
-
Emergency care instructions
-
Goals and learning support strategies
-
List of support professionals (e.g., therapists, caseworkers) involved with the child
Plans are reviewed and updated every 6 months or as needed.
4. Collaboration with Specialists and Therapists
-
With parental consent, we welcome collaboration with speech therapists, occupational therapists, early intervention specialists, or other service providers.
-
Therapists may visit the daycare, observe the child, or conduct sessions in coordination with the provider, as long as it does not disrupt the care of other children.
5. Staff Training and Sensitivity
-
All caregivers are trained on inclusive care practices and how to support children with diverse needs respectfully and effectively.
-
When applicable, additional training may be provided specific to a child’s diagnosis or care needs, especially for health and safety procedures (e.g., seizure response, EpiPen use).
6. Accommodations and Limitations
-
We strive to provide reasonable accommodations based on the needs of the child and the capabilities of our home daycare setting.
-
If a child's needs exceed what can safely and reasonably be provided in a home-based group care setting, we will discuss this with the family and help support the search for a more appropriate setting if needed.
7. Privacy and Confidentiality
All information about a child's diagnosis, needs, or care plan is kept strictly confidential and only shared with staff members directly involved in the child’s care or with parental consent.
8. Emergency Protocols
Children with special medical needs will have an emergency action plan on file. This may include:
-
Allergies and reactions
-
Medication instructions
-
Emergency contacts and preferred hospital
-
Step-by-step response instructions for seizures, asthma attacks, etc.
All staff will be trained in executing the plan if needed.
9. Inclusion in Activities
Children with special needs will be included in all daycare activities to the fullest extent possible. Modifications and additional support will be made as needed to allow them to participate safely and comfortably.
10. Parent Involvement and Advocacy
-
Parents are valued partners in care. We welcome suggestions, strategies, and feedback to help meet your child’s needs.
-
We will hold regular check-ins or progress meetings with parents and caregivers to discuss adjustments or updates to the care plan.
Screen Time Policy
At Adventure Tykes, we prioritize hands-on, imaginative, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. While technology can offer some educational value, we believe that young children learn best through active play, exploration, and face-to-face interaction. This policy outlines how screen time and digital tools are used in our program and sets clear expectations for both staff and families.
1. Screen Time Philosophy
-
We follow recommendations from child development experts (including the American Academy of Pediatrics) which suggest limiting screen time for young children and focusing on active engagement.
-
Our approach is to keep screen time minimal, intentional, and age-appropriate, with the goal of supporting—not replacing—real-world learning experiences.
2. When Screens May Be Used
Screen time is not a regular part of our daily routine. However, it may be used in the following limited situations:
-
Educational Purposes Only: Occasional short videos or interactive activities may be used to enhance a lesson (e.g., a 10-minute educational clip about animals or seasons).
-
Special Days or Events: Screens may be used during special events (e.g., a short holiday cartoon during a party or rainy day treat).
-
Calm-Down or Transition Time: On rare occasions, brief, calming videos may be used during quiet time transitions if children need additional support.
-
Therapy or Individual Plans: If screen-based tools are part of a child's Individualized Care Plan or therapy (with parental approval), they may be used accordingly.
3. Screen Time Limits
-
Toddlers (12–24 months): No screen time, unless video chatting with a parent or as part of a therapeutic plan.
-
Preschoolers (2–5 years): Limited to no more than 20–30 minutes per week total, and only for educational content.
-
No screens are used during mealtimes, active playtime, or nap time.
4. Types of Content
Any content shown to children will be:
-
Age-appropriate
-
Non-violent and non-commercial
-
Free from strong language or frightening content
-
Pre-screened by the provider or staff
We do not show general television programming or allow access to YouTube, personal tablets, or streaming services not directly tied to curriculum content.
5. Personal Devices
-
Children: Children are not permitted to bring or use personal electronic devices (phones, tablets, smartwatches, etc.) at daycare. If a child arrives with a device, it will be kept in their cubby or returned to the parent at drop-off.
-
Parents: We encourage parents to limit cell phone use during pick-up/drop-off to promote meaningful communication and connection with their child and the provider.
6. Use of Technology by Staff
-
Staff may use phones or tablets only for professional use, such as:
-
Emergency contact
-
Taking photos for parent updates (with permission)
-
Recording child observations or developmental notes
-
